A newly designed rest stop for cyclists, the VELOPOD is establishing key destinations along the EuroVelo 6 route, spanning ten countries. Each location serves as a temporary host, offering local resources that vary by region. Delivered directly to these sites, VELOPODs are arranged communally to accommodate multiple cyclists at once.
The VELOPOD is a mobile rest stop inspired by the design language of modern bicycles, resulting in a replicable, efficient structure. Though its mobility is limited, it embraces the concept of compact living on the move—serving both as a space for rest and repair, and as a beacon for social interaction and urban escape.
Primarily stationed near agricultural and resource-rich towns, the VELOPOD provides facilities for food preparation, sleeping, bike maintenance, and communal gathering. Constructed from recycled materials, it presents a minimal yet intentional design aimed at becoming an iconic symbol for the European Union.
Composed of nine prefabricated panels, a structural steel base, and curved aluminum tubing, the VELOPOD is both sturdy and transportable—another vehicle in a 4,400 km journey. Anchored to steel footings that set its orientation, this adaptable and cost-effective unit can be replicated along key points of the EuroVelo 6 route, leaving only a minimal environmental footprint.
